QA: EAMS

1. Who are you?

A 31 year old man from Guadalajara, Mexico. Who likes to make, mix and listen to music.

2. What do you do?

Currently unemployed due to the pandemic, sending resumes while making tons of music.

3. Where do you often create/produce?

Anywhere there’s a computer and friends, but mostly at my room.

4. When?

Anytime, it could be randomly, I may have an idea that needs to be written down or maybe something inspired me.

5. Why do you play music?

I just enjoy it very much. Some kind of mental relief.

6. When did you start making music?

Just did a retrospection and apparently all began in 2005 with a desktop computer and an old casio.

7. Which track defines you the most?

This is hard but there’s an old track “All Labels” featuring the talented singer and dear friend Cyané. A track from my first release “Todas Marcas EP” (2008) as Collateral Soundtrack. You can listen here if you feel like:

8. How would you describe your own music?

Never-ending Electronic Nostalgia

9. Any track of the moment?

Too many to mention, lockdown has been very prolific for creators but I’ll have to say “Lagos” by mexican producer Fran G.

10.What influences your work?

Everything: a movie, a situation, a song, an album, something I read, feelings, colors or images.

11.What’s your academic background? Are you an autodidact?

I was studying computer engineering but I dropped out. I’d definitely consider myself an autodidact.

12.Favorite designer?

I’ll have to say all my friends. There’s a big scene of designers and illustrators in Guadalajara: Peraz & Manzanas, Édgar MT, María Magaña, WWWearelines by ED MV. And I’m currently lost in 3D design and pixel art, artists such as Jubilee (@16pxl) an projects like Monodata.mx

13.Favorite book?

I’m currently reading “Meditaciones desde el subsuelo” by Guillermo Fadanelli. Really good questioning for these times “are all new creations that can’t be count as master pieces valuable or even needed?” I always thought it doesn’t matter, all creations are as valuable as the mental relief received while creating by the person who made it. In addition to the fact that all creations build a landscape for art to exist, just like trees to forests, like Fadanelli said.

14.Favorite classic movie?

All of them, hehe. I always say 8 1/2 by Fellini but I’ve been watching a lot of Arturo Ripstein lately. I’ve always seen mexican cinema as horror cinema, because it’s really scary how perfectly mexican directors portrait the way of living in México, which is really chaotic, dangerous, horrifying and beautiful, full of joy, life and color at the same time, “toda una cultura”.

15.Favorite music label?

Impossible to answer, just like in movies, all labels have something to offer. I’ll just mention these labels for the readers to visit and support: POAT Records, Human Pitch, ADED Files, EMPTY MTY, GOAT FOLK, Futuristica, PIR▲.MD Records, IMPT, Lowers, SNU MUSIC and a lot more. Once you dive into these labels you’ll find more about other mexican labels and artists.

16.Your dream collaboration?

Sound designing a 3D animation or an horror movie.

17. Are you analog or digital?

Both are needed to get the best out of the audio world.

18.Which soft wares/tools/ instruments do you use/play? !

Anything that is at hand. Mobile apps, software, I just don’t like using VSTs, it’s a pain to switch between devices using multiple VSTs. Also instruments anything that’s available; piano, guitar, bass, drums, sometimes I even sing, hehe.

19.Describe your creative process?

Eat, drink water, sleep well daily. Basically just being ready for when an idea comes. Unfortunately the world is and has been for a long time [since the beginning(?)] really troubled, there’s always something that will get you as sad as ever and will bring an idea or inspiration. Recycling-transforming energies I guess.

20.When are you the most prolific (creatively)?

It may vary, when I’m happy, when sad, when I had a delicious meal, when a hangover strikes, when I’m jammin’ with friends, etc.

21. Any favorite record stores? (Real/virtual)

Does bandcamp apply as a record store? if so, yup, them and of course discogs.

22.What’s your life philosophy? (Optimistic/pessimistic)

Realistic-Optimistic, I have this problem with still having faith in human kind.

23.Do you have a healthy lifestyle?

As far as my economy allows it. Eating healthy can be hard when unemployment hits but water, fruits and veggies are always present in my mind.

24.How do you manage your time effectively? (Job/hobby)

Right now in the middle of a pandemic it’s been hard. I’m basically focusing all my time in the music I’m doing and I’ve done, “check out my mixtape (bandcamp) fam!” haha.

25. Any secret skills?

I wish I had that to make a living out of it.

26. Any future plans?

Try to survive while living life and write music in the process.

27.What’s your life motto?

Honesty and dialogue. We need to have more conversations and being transparent.

28. Any “mot de la fin”?!

“are we eating the tyrannical rich people yet?”
