1. Who are you?

Without going in to too much detail, my name is Eric.

2. What do you do?

I’m watching tennis and drinking coffee right now.

3. Where do you often create/produce?

Varies a lot and depends on the production – I was just producing something at the grocery store earlier today but I couldn’t tell what exactly. Sometimes certain types of production are subtractive or even negative, don’t you think? I often wonder about not producing. Sounds intriguing…

4. When?

It seems to be happening often.

5. Why do you play music?

I personally believe it’s due to stubbornness.

6. When did you start making music?

I keep wondering if I’ve started yet.

7. Which track defines you the most?

Janet Jackson – That’s the Way Love Goes

8. How would you describe your own music?

I would say it’s difficult.

9. Any track of the moment?

I like this track:

10.What influences your work?

The idea of not working.

11.What’s your academic background? Are you an autodidact?

It’s actually a little bit strained unfortunately. I don’t find myself agreeing with as many academics as I disagree with. I don’t see much support coming from academia in the west. I did have a lovely performance at University of Edinburgh that was commissioned by a PhD student there. I don’t see that happening in America though.

12.Favorite designer?

Conceptually I enjoy Eckhaus, looking at their pieces is visually inspiring for me. I also like Telfar in a similar way but more-so their entire approach, not just the textiles.

13.Favorite book?

The last thing I really read was James Baldwin’s No Name in the Street. Most recently Basho, and Michaux’s writings on mescaline, Harry Smith’s paper airplane and string figures books, James Son Ford Thomas’ sculptural work. I keep a copy of McEvilley’s The Shape of Ancient Thought nearby. Robert Ashley scores.

14.Favorite classic movie?

What is the most classic movie of all time? I’d like to say whichever one is the most classic. Citizen Kane. Buster Keaton.

15.Favorite music label?

Tearoom Kohaku – its not a label though, its just a tearoom but I like to think of it as a label.

16.Your dream collaboration?

Boulez – his nightmare?

17. Are you analog or digital?

If I were asked I might say acoustic.

18.Which soft wares/tools/ instruments do you use/play?

I’m trying to get into wash tub playing more and more lately. It’s really challenging. I’m trying to replicate this wonderful psychoacoustic trumpet chattering from Boulez’s Répons.

19.Describe your creative process?

I have no stock answer to that.

20.When are you the most prolific (creatively)?

I like to get prolific as much as possible. Right now this is a fairly prolific q+a, wouldn’t you agree?

21. Any favorite record stores? (Real/virtual)

I couldn’t say yes.

22.What’s your life philosophy? (Optimistic/pessimistic)

There is no glass.

23. Do you have a healthy lifestyle?

I’m drinking a beer right now and answering these questions.

24. How do you manage your time effectively? (Job/hobby)

I laugh a lot.

25. Any secret skills?

Several, but people might know about them.

26. Any future plans?

I have some, yes. Though, I don’t know if I would consider them plans or more of an idea.

27.What’s your life motto?

I like it most of the time.

28. Any “mot de la fin”?

I don’t do my own Instagram.
