1. Who are you?

I’m GianMaria Coccoluto, a simple guy, who lives in Cassino.

2. What do you do?

I live.

3. Where do you often create/produce?

In the recording studio, that I stare with my father.

4. When?

I work in my studio all week from monday to friday from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m.
I don’t give a lot of days to the recording production; usually I consider this special studio like a kitchen’s laboratory, a place where it’s possible to try, to test, to taste new flavours and spices.

5. Why do you play music?

I don’t know the reason, but I know that immediately I have felt a such of natural attraction. Perhaps because of my shyness, I’ve found my perfect dimension, my private position behind a desk.

6. When did you start making music?

At 14 years old; my father is an appreciated Dj and I have grown among the vinyls… When my friends played football, I began to mix music.

7. Which track defines you the most?

It seems a simple question, but actually is so complicated, undoubtedly Pink Floyd “The dark side of the moon” about club’s music I can’t answer you.

8. How would you describe your own music?

I think it’s possible immagine my music like a parallelepiped, inside a dj set I try to mix everything I like, from Berlin’s techno ’til Chicago’s house, from disco to every part of Detroit touching also soulsul… I don’t fix limits.

10. What influences your work?

My work is influenced by everything that attracts me, generating and producing the past’s influences and the present sound to create another one for the future.

11. What’s your academic background? Are you an autodidact?

I’m only half autodidact. Thanks to my father, I have grown between vinyls and synth, between drum machines and recording studio. But he was severe and aloof and gave me time to learn by myself, without forcing me to follow him and his teachings.

12. Favorite designer?

I prefer a phenomenon, not only one artist: futurism.

13. Favorite book?

Il Maestro e Margherita, Michail Bulgakov

14. Favorite classic movie?

2001 Odissea nello spazio, Blues Brothers, Blade Runner

15. Favorite music label?

I can’t answer you, probably L.I.E.S./Ilian tape/Sex tags Mania for the sound that they maintain and for their constancy. There are also Sound Signature, Honest Jone’s, Perlon, Metroplex, …

16. Your dream collaboration?

My father Claudio, David Byrne, Massive Attack, Moritz von Oswald, Ricardo Villalobos and i, all together in the same studio…….WOW!

17. Are you analog or digital?

ANALOG (vinyl&deummachine) with digital’s help.

18. Which soft wares/tools/ instruments do you use/play? 

I use like sequencer Ableton Live and I work with Tr909 Tb808, Moog Voyager, Virus, Mpc and others.

19. Describe your creative process?

I haven’t an exact process of creation: I begin with something I have already in my mind, sometimes I start from a sample sometimes from a beat.

20. When are you the most prolific (creatively)?

When I dedicate necessary time to immagination.

21. Any favorite record stores? (Real/virtual)

22. What’s your life philosophy? 

Although I’m an anxious person, I’m optimist; I don’t dwell upon problems, but upon their solution.

23. Do you have a healthy lifestyle?

I try to have it, but I have to work a lot to lose some kilos.

24. How do you manage your time effectively? (Job/hobby)

I work in a familiar activity at the beginning of the week (night/ morning) and every afternoon I go to the recording studio, which I consider a place where welcome and receive friends and colleagues. I live with my girlfriend and I’m in touch with my family.

To work at my Tête Records and at “thedub world” with my father and my friends, and not else.
