1. Who are you?
2. What do you do?
I make music and put out tapes.
3. Where do you often create/produce?
At home, wherever home is at the moment— currently a tiny but warm room in Berlin.
5am, 2pm, 7pm… whenever.
5. Why do you play music?
It’s the only thing I know how to do just for myself.
6. When did you start making music?
I started playing violin when I was around 5 and moved towards noise and more experimental sounds in high school.
7. Which track defines you the most?
8. How would you describe your own music?
9. Any track of the moment?
10.What influences your work?
Whatever sounds I’ve been stuck on lately, feelings, systems.
11.What’s your academic background? Are you an autodidact?
I studied a bunch of different things in college. Still working on a degree.
Maybe Dhalgren? Crime and Punishment? This is a really extreme question! I love books.
14.Favorite classic movie?
15.Favorite music label?
16.Your dream collaboration?
Gerald Donald… or Shabba Ranks… or Britney.
17. Are you analog or digital?
I mostly use digital hardware with some analog sound generation(hitting, scratching, shouting, magnets).
18.Which softwares/tools/ instruments do you use/play?
Machinedrum, crappy Boss pedals, tapes, mixers, MaxMSP, Supercollider and Ableton.
19.Describe your creative process?
I just sit down and jam until something I like comes out. Then I refine that. Lately I’ve been working on not being so content to just record something live and leave it as it is.
20.When are you the most prolific (creatively)?
When the mood is right.
21. Any favorite record stores? (Real/virtual)
22.What’s your life philosophy? (Optimistic/pessimistic)
I try to stay pretty zen.
23. Do you have a healthy lifestyle?
I would describe it more as extreme.. sometimes extremely healthy, sometimes extremely terrifying. Daily Qigong practice is an exciting new development.
24.How do you manage your time effectively? (Job/hobby)
I try to keep everything spatially organized— doing work at work or a library keeps me from getting distracted by music when I can’t afford to be. I used to actually work in a library, which was in many ways an ideal situation… paid to stay away from gear and be productive in other ways until I didn’t have to anymore!
25. Any secret skills?
26. Any future plans?
27.What’s your life motto?
28. Any “mot de la fin”?
